Chilli in wraps

Today's soup of the day was leek and potato, which was nice but pretty thick and when i squeezed it out of the carton it was almost jelly like, which was a bit of a turn off.

In the afternoon I was feeling pretty peckish, so when I colleague went out for a chocolate run I couldn't resist getting a Twix and I fully enjoyed it with my 3.30pm cup of tea.

Mr P and I went out for a couple of glasses of vino after work, which was very nice and then Mr P cooked me chilli in wraps which was so tasty.

In other news I am going to be having a weekly guest blogger who will chat about the world of wines. I have decided Friday afternoon shall be wine time as at around 4pm on a Friday afternoon I often start fantasising about wine. So from this Friday my resident wine guru Dan Probert shall be blogging about wine, everything from his views on different wines to his favourite wine of the week.

Chorizo pasta

I'm properly back into my winter working week now and so soup is a daily occurence. Tpday I oncd again had half a carton of chicken and veg soup with a roll, which did the job. My colleague bought a chicken and broccolli sandwich for lunch which I found an odd combination fo0r a sandwich filling.

For dinner Mr P and I made our usual chorizo pasta which was very nice. In it was onion, garlic, courgettes, pepper, mushrooms, chopped tomatoes, single cream and penne pasta. It was nice.

Mr P bought a tin of Quality Streets the other day and we have started tucking into it. I can't believe how much one of those chocolates tastes so much like Chistmas, its brilliant. So after the pasta I then ate a ridiculous amount of Quality Streets, yum. The cremes are my favourite.

Chicago Town pizza

It was a pretty standard food day today, not much interesting to report I'm afraid. I had my usual weetabix for breakfast, which I've realised have to have sugar on as without they taste a bit like cardboard flavoured mushy peas, not my favourite thing in the world.

For lunch I had a Tesco soup (one of the ones in cartons), it was chicken and vegetable flavour and on offer for just a quid. Considering it will last be two lunches worth of soup I was pretty pleased with my buy. I had it with a crusty, (however very soft on the inside) roll. I liked it a lot and it filled me up all day long.

I met up with a friend for a few glasses of vino after work which was a lovely treat after a particularly busy day. However by the time I got home it was 9.45 and a little too late to cook. Mr P met me at the station and had popped to the chinese take away and the chippy but unbelievably both we shut - can you believe it. It would have been the most romantic thing in the world if Mr P had met me off the train with a steaming hot chow mein, but it obviously wasn't meant to be.

Instead we toddled off home to watch the final football scores come in, and put a triple cheese Chicago Town pizza in the oven with chorizo and mushrooms on top. It was tasty but perhaps not the most culinary of meals.

Monday 27 September 2010

Halibut with razor clams, lobster and mash

Today's food was a real mixture. I was out at a conference in the morning, so I didn't have my usual breakfast and instead had a pan au chocolate and a cup of tea on the train to Coventry. My lunch was pretty poor too, just a bag of Walkers salt and vinegar crisps and a bottle of cherry coke.

I was feeling pretty sorry for myself by the time I got back to the office at half three and was ravenous. As I was going out to an awards ceremony I thought I'd better line my stomach with something or else I'd be completely bazookered at the champagne reception, so I tucked into a bowl of weetabix followed by a pear.

The awards ceremony I went to was the AA hospitality awards, which was an ultra glamourous event held at the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane. I even spent part of the night talking to Steven Gerrard!!

I meant to bring a menu home so I could remember exactly what each course was along with the wine which was served with it, but I forgot to bring one, so I shall attempt to remember. There was first a champage reception with canapes, then...

Starter - Carpaccio of beef with something very light and creamy on top, but I'm not sure what buit it was seriously delicious. This was served with a lovely white wine.

Main - fillet of halibut with razor clams, tiny little leeks (I think), lobster and lobster sauce served on mashed potato. This was utterly superb, it tasted amazing. It was so meaty and the taste in my mouth afterwards lingered for ages, it was an absolute wonder. This was served with a red, but it was the lightest red I have ever had and it went perfectly with the fish.

Dessert - Raspberry and chocolate fondant with ice-cream and caramelised peanuts. This had pieces of raspberry scattered on the plate which had little bits of gold leaf on. And the ice cream was the best ice cream ever. Another beautiful course. This was served with a dessert wine. I love dessert wine and certainly do not have it enough.

Afterwards there was coffee and beautiful petite fours, which included some macaroons, as light as anything. Oh and that was followed by yet more champagne. A seriously divine evening of food.

Sunday 26 September 2010

Pork tenderloin with mustard mash

Got up and went shopping straight away this morning, so I didn't get time to have a proper breakfast, however I popped to Greggs to gte a cup of tea and an iced ring doughnut, perhaps not the healthiest breakfast but it was more an elevenses or brunch.

For lunch I met up with some of my lovely friends at a pub in Brixton. I had a 'classic' burger which was really gorgeous and succulent, with chips which I loved as they had their skins on and for some reason I love chips with skins on, its rustic somehow.

Mr P did work all day so I made a nice dinner for him. I roasted a piece of pork tenderlolin which I rolled in brown sugar, a little bit of flour and some salt and pepper. I served it cut into medallions on mustard mash, which I mashed then baked for a while, alongside fried asparagus and courgette and a lovely light gravy, or should I say jus. I was quite pleased with myself and I hope Mr P enjoyed it.

Take-away curry

Wasn't feeling too fresh this morning when the alarm went off at 7.30am after quite a few glasses of vino the night before, but we had to get up early as Mr P was playing in a five-a-side football tournament and I was going to loyally cheer him on. Mr P kindly made me a couple of smoked bacon rolls which I enjoyed on the tube on the way.

Despite the very cold weather there was a barbeque at the football tounament, so I tucked into a sausage roll (in a roll, not the pastry variety), some chicken, coleslaw and salad.

After a long hard day of playing football followed by a few beverages Mr P and his brother fancied a curry. I wouldn't want to deny them the pleasure,s o I indulged in my second curry in two days. Mr P and I shared a selection of dishes including lamb dopiaza, chicken korma, sag aloo, pilau rice and naan. The sauces were really nice and I loved the sag aloo, in fact I love the meal the meat was a little dry. It went down a treat, but I think I might wait a little while before I have another curry, at least a few days.

Saturday 25 September 2010

Capricciosa pizza

Went out for a lovely news team lunch today to welcome a new reporter to the team. We went to an Indian known for its huge family nanns, a wonderous treat on a friday lunch. We had poppadoms, then I had chicken tikka massalla and rice, plus lots of the amazing naan. Oh and a large bottle of Cobra lager.

In the evening I met up with a friend and we went out to a little Italian called Lorenzos in Crystal Palace. I had a caprioccosa (not sure of the spelling), which had ham, onion, artichoke (my favourite topping ever!!) and mushroom. It was the perfect evening, wine, pizza and good company.

Friday 24 September 2010

Prawn pad thai

Didn't have my usual weetabix for breakfast and instead had a egg roll with ketchup after our long-awaited big shop. Its so nice to have food back in the fridge.

For lunch I went out for with a contact. We just went to a little cafe, which was pleasant, not the best food in the world, but pleasant enough. I had fishcake, chips, salad and tartar sauce. I forgot how tasty tartar sauce can be.

For dinner Mr P was out so I made myself a lovely prawn pad thai. The sauce may have just been out of a packet but I was quite impressed myself. I fried some vegetables in a wok, batons of carrot, courgette and sliced mushrooms, then dropped in the prawns, then a beated egg, then the noodles before adding the sauce. I would never have thought of adding the egg, but the sauce packet suggested it and I shall definitely do it again.

The meal for one went down very well, Mr Grey also very much enjoyed the prawns and tried to spend most of the time using her paws to grab my plate down. She's a little trouble-maker.

Thursday 23 September 2010

Stuffed courgette.. again

I have very little to tell you today.

For lunch I had Covent Garden tomato and mascapone soup, which was very nice.

Then for dinner we had exactly the same as last night because there was so much left over, very dull indeed. It was tasty nonetheless.

Our Tesco shopping was delivering literally as we were about to sit down to eat, which was pretty irritating, but at least we have a fully stocked kitchen now.

Wednesday 22 September 2010

Stuffed giant courgette

I got given a huge courgette today from a guy at work who has an allotment, so obviously I had to use that for dinner.

I once again had carrot and coriander soup for lunch, which was nice but I wasn't particularly full afterwards so I spent much of the afternoon feasting on mini toblerones and oreo cookies another colleague had bought back from holiday.

For dinner though I had the magnificent courgette. Mr P scooped out the inside of it and we added it to a pan of mince, onion, garlic, chopped tomatoes and button mushrooms, lightly spiced with cajun pepper. We then baked the courgette halves for a short while before adding the beefy mixture. I then sprinkled mine with a touch of cinnamon - lovely.

It tasted very nice and healthy, but it was a little watery, don't think we simmered the meat for long enough. We only managed to eat one half between us so we shall be enjoying it again tonight.

I have been having immense cheese on toast cravings all day, which is not good as cheese makes my stomach hurt, a lot.

Tuesday 21 September 2010

Prawn thai yellow curry

Back to work and back to some attempt at healthy eating. For lunch today I had Covent Garden carrot and corriander soup. I thoroughly enjoyed it but was still pretty peckish after, so I tucked into some of the sweets and biscuits we bought back from Spain, not so much healthy eating there.

By dinner I was absolutely ravinous so I decided to cook a prawn thai yellow curry. Not too much to say on this as after getting back from holiday we were pretty low on ingredients. So I just used a green pepper, a tin of bamboo shoots, some thai yellow curry paste, coconut milk, fish sauce and prawns, served with thin egg noodles. Very tasty and just about filled me up.

Sunday 19 September 2010

Subway and sausage and mash

I haven't had a Subway for absolutely years, each time I walk past a branch and smell that bready smell I am always tempted, but I never act on the urge... well today I caved. We got to the airport at about 9 and I hadn't had any breakfast. On seeing the selection - a choice of eight packet sandwiches or subway I decided to opt for Subway.

Waiting in line I was a little overwhelmed by the choice... baguette? size? filling? toasted? salad? sauce? drink? It was all a little bit too much, but I chose a 30cm sub with turkey breast, cheese, lettuce, olives, peppers and mayo. It didn't quite live up to my expectations and I didn't particularly enjoy the first taste or two, but after a few mouthfuls I came to appreciate it. I was slightly over-optimistic with ordering a 30cm and gave half to Mr P who appeared to greatly enjoy it.

After getting off the plane we decided to indulge in a little bit more junk food. I had a quarter pounder with cheese, fries and coke, oh and barbque sauce. Mr P had two cheeseburgers and fries. It tasted like the best thing ever.

Mr P made me a lovely wholesome dinner which was very homely, sausage, mash, peas and gravy. It was just what I wanted after a long day of travelling. I also realisd that I love lincolnshire sausages, they are yum.

Saturday 18 September 2010

The last and best meal of the holiday

Today was our last day in sunny Spain and I am very sad about the thought of venturing back to cold England and work, and boring lunches and expensive wine, oh the list goes on.

Anyway today we had some really lovely food, we finished off our cheese, bread and chorizo on the balcony for breakfast with some fresh coffee. Very lovely indeed. The cheese we had was like emmenthal, but wasn't, I don't know its name, anyway it was so nice and nutty.

For lunch we went to a little Spanish cafe and had tapas and lots of cold beer. We had patatas bravas, chorizo in cider and garlic prawns with lovely fresh bread. It was really the perfect Spanish lunch, I loved it.

For dinner we went to a roof-top terrace restuarant. It was really beautiful, I loved it so much. When we got there and I asked for a bottle of house white and the waitress said "It's Sauvingnon Blanc, is that ok?"... errr yeahhhhh!

Mr P had a lovely soup to start, sweet potato and red pepper, I thought it was amazing and I will definitely try to recreate something similar once we're home. I had deep fried brie with berry coulis which was also very nice, but was just overshaddowed by the soup. For mains we shared half and half and they origninally bought us both the same which was a little annoying, but we told them and they changed a dish straight away. We had cod with chorizo on pome puree with saffron mayonaise. The other main was even better, it was pork tenderloin with dauphinoise potatoes, courgettes and a wholegrain mustard sauce. The meat was unbelievably tender.

When we go back to Spain again I definitely want to go back to Rosalind's. The best meal of the holiday.

Friday 17 September 2010

Asian set menu

After another Spanish omlette for lunch which wasn't quite as spectacuar as the last, Mr P and I went to an Asian restaurant for dinner on the 'strip' of resturants near the appartment.

We both chose the 'Run' (name of the restaurant) set menu, which was an absolute bargain at 15 euros. We both had:

* A 'Run' salad - lettuce, tomatoes, rice noodles and seaweed plus dressing
* Two Vietnamese spring rolls
* Assorted dim sum - totally amazing and delicious, I think I could probably eat dim sum all day
* Cantonese duck with plum sauce
* Chinese chicken in coconut milk
* Tempura prawns
* Rice

It was all lovely and fantastic value for money!! We also both had a dessert of our choice. Mr P had lemon and cava sorbet which was served in a champagne glass and was so refreshing. "I had sticky rice balls covered in sesame seeds and served with ice cream. I loved it so much. A very nice dinner.

Thursday 16 September 2010

Chorizo pasta again

Today Mr P and I unashamedly went to an English cafe and had a fry up for lunch while we were in Spain. I am usually such a snob and am always condescending of people who want fried bacon and egg when they could be sampling Spanish delicacies, but today was a little cloudier and we fancied a taste of home. We both had very tasty lunches consisting of eggs, bacon, sausage, tomato, beans, hash browns (my absolute fave) and toast. It was so so nice. Much better than I had anticipated.

For dessert we shared a mandarin cheesecake which we had heard loads about. It tasted very nice and was presented beautifully but it was a little too heavy for me, perhaps slightly too much cheese... or it could just have been the sheer amount of fat I had just consumed.

For dessert we made our chorizo pasta dish again, which was exactly the same as last time but this time with the addition of cream and mushrooms. I liked it a lot.

Wednesday 15 September 2010

Rabbit paella

I forgot to mention yesterday that I had the most amazing ice cream ever. It basically was the same shape as a magnum and was covered in white chocolate, but the inside had cheesecake flavour ice cream. How amazing is that!! It was divine.

I loved our lunch today, just my type of food! We had pan-fried trout, which Mr P and I had attempted to fillet from the entire fish, head and all. All the flesh got stuck up my nails (I've got false ones at the moment) and I couldn't get the smell out for hours, but panfried in a little bit of butter it was so delicious. We served the fish very simply with some grilled asparagus. Mr P likes his completely cremated and crispy which I think ruins the point of having the vegetable, but he loves it. It was a very successful and pretty healthy lunch, obviously this was served with some crisp white rioja.

This evening we went to El Patio II, a big Spanish restaurant which serves grilled meat, fish and paella. We shared a plate of serrano ham for starter which was just amazing. It just melted in our mouths. For main we also shared a huge vat of chicken and rabbit paella.

The paella was really tasty, the stock they must use must be packed with meat juices, I've never tasted anything quite so meaty. However unfortunately there wasn't quite as much actual chunks of meat as we would have hoped for and it was very boney. I've never had rabbit before though and it was nice to try it, I thought it was kind of similar to chicken but had a more inense flavour. It was a lovely meal sat out in the restuarant's courtyard.

Tuesday 14 September 2010

Too much squid

We were feeling a little inventive at the fresh fish counter yesterday so we decided to buy a huge great squid. Considering neither of us have ever cooked a squid before it could be slightly ambitious.

For lunch Mr P made a lovely Spanish omlette with milk, cheese, bacon, chorizo, onion and peas, of course all washed down with a bottle of Spanish red. It was really really nice.

Then this evening we tackled the squid, and what a beast it was!!! Pulling it apart and cutting it up wasn't as difficult as I anticipated, but a strapless black dress ready for a night of cocktails was perhaps not the best attire.

We decided to serve the pan-fried squid with a bacon and dill risotto, which was very enjoyable and the whole meal would have been very nice indeed had their not been enough grub to serve a Tudor banquette, with all of Henry VIII's wives. Mr P was not a fan of the dill, which we over did slightly. However we both agreed that there was way too much making us now feel sick at the mere mention of squid. I'm not sure I'll be having it anytime soon, although I'm pleased I have now accomplished preparing and cooking this fish.

Monday 13 September 2010

Hard sarnies and off chicken

Today's food was not so good.

It started off well with fresh coffee and pastries on the balcony, but went steadily downhill, so the less said about it the better to be honest.

For lunch we decided to finish off the cheese, chorizo and bread from yesterday and make some sandwiches. However the bread had considerably hardened since yesterday and so the sarnie was dry dry dry. No amount of butter could ressurect the situation unfortunately.

We decided to go out for dinner and chose an Argentinian and Indian restaurant called Masterchef, the name should have said it all really. I should have realised an Indian restaurant which serves pasta and pizza as well as chicken tikka and vindaloo is not going to do everything to the highest quality. Mr P and I couldn't agree on what we fancied which is why we plumped for this restaurant which offered Mr P the burger he craved and me my curry I wanted.

I opted for a chicken passanda with naan bread and rice. The bread was the best part of the meal, but it could definitely not be called naan. The passanda sauce tasted like boiled milk and the chicken was off. It tasted as if it had been smeared with poo. Mr P's burger wasn't quite as offensive, but basically tasted like a burger from wimpy, even MacDonalds would have been ashame of it. We shall not be going back there.

Sunday 12 September 2010

Spanish fare

One thing I absolutely love about foreign bars is that you often get presented with some nibbles even when just having a couple of beers. Today on going for a few drinks along the beach we got some tasty patatas bravas at one bar, then at another lovely little place we had a small dish of paella which tasted absolutely amazing sitting in the sun with some ice cold beer. If there's something that English bars need to inherit it would be this. A bowl of salty nuts don't quite cut the mustard though.

For lunch we had some tradional Spanish fare, chorizo, bread and cheese with a very cheap (around£1.50) and tasty bottle of vino tinto, all enjoyed whilst sitting on the warm balcony - heavenly!!

For dinner we decided to make ourselves another Spanish treat, chorizo and pasta. Mr P made a wonderous sauce consisting of passata, red wine, courgette, a hugely odd-shaped red pepper which was delicious, and chorizo, was yum yum yum. Its a meal we often make at home but for some reason it tastes a million times better in Spain with the delicious fresh produce and the heat from a day in the sun still warm on your back.

Saturday 11 September 2010

Airport grub

Thought I'd post a quick blog before we board our plan - we are off to sunny Spain and I can't wait!

Last night Mr P made chilli with sour cream and wraps. It was the second time we've had chilli this week but because of going on holiday we needed to use a few things up in the fridge and I was really very tasty.

We just ate in the departures bit at the airport and had roast meat in sandwiches. Mr P has beef which was unfortunately very dry and certainly not work the 6 quid we paid for it. I had roast pork with stuffing and apple sauce which was lovely. I decided to get us two pints of carling each as it was only a tenner, however I don't finished both of mine as we will probably need a wee on the plane which I hate doing!

Not sure how much I'm going to be able to blog over the next week or so because I can't afford to pay the ridiculous costs of data Roaming on my phone and I'm not sure if there is an internet cafe. But I shall attempt to remember all the Spanish treats we devour and tell u when we get back.

Friday 10 September 2010

An evening fry-up

There's nothing like a good old greasy fry up in the evening, it manages to taste totally different from how it does in the morning. Last night I was feeling particularly sorry for myself and when Mr P asked what I fancied eating I replied with sausage and egg.. so we had that.

Mr P made a gorgeous creation of sausages (pork and apple), egg, mushrooms, a potato rosti (perhaps my favourite part) and tomatoes. It was so so lovely. And then I drunk about a litre of hot orange squash, the perfect remedy for a rotten cold.

Today I went out for lunch with some colleagues to Nandos. On hearing where they were going I almost refused. I'm a bit of a Nandos snob you see, I don't understand why anyone would want to go to a restaurant where all they can eat is chicken - odd. You can surely have chicken and chips any day so on going to a restaurant I usually want to try something a bit different. Anyway, not wanting to be a bore I went along and was mildly surprised. I had a quarter chicken with chips and some corn on the cob.

The chicken was the star of the show, it was so so moist and really very nice. I'm not a huge fan of chicken being served on the bone, but I managed to get over that. The chips and corn on the cob were both pretty tasty, and I was as excited as a child on Christmas Eve about the free refills of soft-drinks. At over £2 I was hoping my beverage would at least be large, but on being given an empty glass I was slightly perturbed until I spotted the drinks counter with a choice of taps offering different drinks.

I have of course been visiting the toilet every ten minutes after the sheer volume of coca cola I consumed at lunch.

On another note I really fancy trying those new extra crunchy walkers crisps. I'm not sure how you can make crisps crunchier, but their ad campaign has obviously worked on me as I am extremely intrigued.

Thursday 9 September 2010

Asparagus and seabass

I've been eating an awful lot over the past day or so attempting to stave off this cold.

I had such a craving for mini rolls yesterday, I don't think I've had one for years, but I was a bit disappointed to see just how 'mini' they really are and the caramel flavoured cake bar was gone in a couple of munches.

My sister made me dinner - an attempt at shepherds pie but without the baking in the oven, which I think is a bit of a waste of time as it doesn't particularly impact the taste. The mincey, gravyness was pretty delicious, a homely, heart-warming meal, which certainly soothed my throat. The mashed potato didn't go quite to plan however as after peeling and boiling the spuds we realised we were lacking the vital masher, so instead we decided to crush them a little with a fork and add lots of butter to make up for the lumps.

Today I was taken out for lunch by a publisher. We went to Rules on Maiden lane, which was like a wonderful step back in time. The walls were wood paneled with grand paintings adorning the walls. The plates were something you might imagine having when dining at Princess Anne's and were rimmed with a burgundy and gold pattern.

I thoroughly enjoyed the menu chosen, which is not always a given when eating from a set menu. For starter we had asparagus (for which i suffered the smelly after-effects), served with a creamy hollandaise sauce and half a lemon wrapped in a gauze type material, very fancy!

For mains we had my favourite fish, seabass. So delicate. It was served on a bed of samphire and courgette, possibly my two favourite vegetables. This was accompanied by an ice cold glass or two of some kind of Sancerre, which was gorge. I was stuffed after this and felt slightly sickened at the sight of the chocolate puddings which were then bought out and so I just had a few spoonfuls before retiring back to the office.

A lovely lunch with some very nice people, it certainly comes as a welcome break from the mackerel salad I will be back to tomorrow.

Mr P is currently making me dinner... again. He's a good'un.

Wednesday 8 September 2010

Massaman curry

I think I could eat Massaman curry for lunch every day. I got some from a little thai stall down the road from work and it is so nice that I had to blog about it half way through eating it. Its so warming with a slight spice, just the remedy!

My cold is horrible so I am indulging in lots of warming foods. We had chilli con carne on nachos with loads of cheese on top last night. It went down a treat whilst watching the football.

My wonderous sister is cooking me dinner tonight, which should be lovely.

Tuesday 7 September 2010

Mussel pasta... and a snotty nose

They say starve a fever, feed a cold and as I've now got a dreadful cold and am feeling very sorry for myself I am going to gorge myself on lots of lovely food over the next few days... I better not have this cold on my holiday.

Anyway, enough moaning, for dinner yesterday Mr P and I did a joint effort and cooked up a mussel pasta thing. It basically consisted of mussel meat, chopped tomatoes, onion, garlic, courgettes, chilli, cream and linguine. It was very nice indeed.

Oh and also, this week for breakfast I have been having Oats and More which I have realised it so so nice. I love breakfast time, food always tastes so good because my taste-buds have been starved overnight.

Monday 6 September 2010

Oriental pan-fried salmon

Yesterday was a very very good food day. I'm starving now at the thought of all the wonderous food consumed at the weekend.

I got up an hour or so before Mr P and was peckish but wanted to wait for him to get up so we could have breakfast together, so I decided to have some Ben & Jerry's Half Baked ice cream to hold off any hunger-pains whist watching Simon Rimmer cook up some treats on Something for the Weekend.

By the time Mr P got up it was pretty much lunch time so we had some pancakes, some with cheese in the middle and some with sugar and lemon - they were absolutely divine. I've realised I'm a bit of a pancake fanatic. When we went to Tunisia for a week in June there was a chef making fresh pancakes in our hotel every day and I managed to consumer 42 in the week! Also for lunch we had some little bits and pieces left over from Saturday like chorizo and some lovely fresh bread.

For dinner I made salmon, which I marinaded (we are getting good at marinading) in some soy sauce, white port, chilli, ginger and sesame. Then pan-fried it. I served it on a bed of rice (we didn't have any noodles left which would have been my first choice), stir-fried onions, carrots and courgettes and a hoisin and spring onion sauce. It was very very tasty, I loved it. The sauce had a lot of star anise in it though which Mr P thought was a tad overpowering, but I still loved it. A very successful meal in my eyes.

Sunday 5 September 2010

Take away curry

Once again I was useless and lazy and didn't end up cooking. Whilst Mr P and I were in the pub enjoying an early evening drink I saw someone pull out a take-away menu and I suddenly got an intense craving for some curry. So while watching the X Factor we ordered and ate:
Lamb dopiaza
Chicken korma
Saag aloo
Pilau rice
Peshwari naan

It was all absolutely gorgeous and just what I felt like, plus it wasn't too greasy, so we shall certainly order from there again. I washed it all down with a can of Holsten Pils, so so good. Tonight I am definitely going to cool for Mr P, some kind of salmon dish I think.

Saturday 4 September 2010

Hangover pancakes

Mr P and I eventually had our beef skewers, which were nice but didn't quite live up to my high expectations. They were a little bit too spicy and after consuming four glasses of wine and a dairylea dunker I didn't appreciate them quite as much as I should hav done. After eating half of my pitta filled with meaty goodness I fell asleep watching big brother and woke up this morning with a sore head and a mouth as dry as a sock with a stale taste of raw onion - lovely.

Today's meals hav so far been yum. Me P made pancakes this morning, the lovely thin ones not the fat small American ones, which I had drenched in freshly squeezed lemon juice and caster sugar - perfect.

Then for lunch we had one of those lunches that remind me of being on holiday - we has fresh bread with chorizo, cheese, humous, pitta bread and garlic and chilli olives all washed down with a glass of red, I felt just like we were in Spain, and in a weeks time we'll be there to sample to likes of Rioja and paella. Bliss.

Im making Mr P dinner tonight hopefully some time before x factor starts, so I'll let you know how that goes.

Friday 3 September 2010

Cornflakes and a white chocolate mousse

Ok so the beautifully marinated beef didn't end up getting cooked last night due to mine and Mr P's absolute laziness.

I got sucked into The Saturday's: 24/7 and have realised that I have a rather sizable crush on three members of the band (Frankie, Rochelle and Molly). Watching the show I also came to the conclusion that my dream job is in fact being a Saturday, however I'm not sure my singing voice and dance moves are quite up to scratch in the pop-star world.

Anyway whilst I was mesmerized by the TV Mr P. was taking a long soak in the bath, which he was frankly enjoying too much to get out and get greasy fingers from sliding chucks of beef onto a skewer. So at half 9 we decided it was too late to start cooking and we partook in our dinner of cornflakes, a white chocolate areo mousse and a large glass of red wine. Not the most traditional combinations but it did the job.

You will be pleased to know that for lunch I have managed to assemble a slice of Healthy Living quiche Lorraine with Mediterranean cous cous, rocket, tomatoes, sweetcorn and coleslaw, it is a treat.

I am however very much looking forward to my beef skewers tonight which should be a taste sensation sensation after the meat marinading for 48 hours.

Bon appetite.

Thursday 2 September 2010

Toad in the Hole

Mr P made an absolutely delicious toad in the hole last night.

We didn't have enough plain flour and on ringing my mum she said to "steer clear" of self-raising flour, however Mr P took a chance.. and boy it paid off!

The sausages (Tesco finest Cumberland) were nice, a tad peppery perhaps but pretty tasty. The yorkshire pudding rose beautifully around the little porkies and was slighty crispy on top however still soft and doughy underneath.

It was quite simply delicious.

We had it with just gravy, peas and a little bit of Dijon mustard. I shall attempt to post a pic when I have figured out how.

I am very much looking forward to tonight's evening meal, we're going to have some beef kebabs and Mr P made a little rosemary marinade for the beef last night which it has been resting in ever since, so there are high expectations.
