Too much squid

We were feeling a little inventive at the fresh fish counter yesterday so we decided to buy a huge great squid. Considering neither of us have ever cooked a squid before it could be slightly ambitious.

For lunch Mr P made a lovely Spanish omlette with milk, cheese, bacon, chorizo, onion and peas, of course all washed down with a bottle of Spanish red. It was really really nice.

Then this evening we tackled the squid, and what a beast it was!!! Pulling it apart and cutting it up wasn't as difficult as I anticipated, but a strapless black dress ready for a night of cocktails was perhaps not the best attire.

We decided to serve the pan-fried squid with a bacon and dill risotto, which was very enjoyable and the whole meal would have been very nice indeed had their not been enough grub to serve a Tudor banquette, with all of Henry VIII's wives. Mr P was not a fan of the dill, which we over did slightly. However we both agreed that there was way too much making us now feel sick at the mere mention of squid. I'm not sure I'll be having it anytime soon, although I'm pleased I have now accomplished preparing and cooking this fish.
